Sumit Kumar Hira, PhD

Hello! I am an accomplished professional with a diverse background in immunology, boasting extensive experience as an Assistant Professor at The University of Burdwan. Currently at Stage-II, I have been contributing to the academic community since 2015, specializing in the field of Immunology.

My academic journey began with a Ph.D. in Immunology from Banaras Hindu University in 2014, preceded by a CSIR-NET JRF in Life Science in December 2007. I hold an M.Sc. in Zoology with a specialization in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology from Banaras Hindu University (2008) and a B.Sc. (Hons) in Zoology from the same institution (2006).

My journey in academia commenced in 2015 when I joined The University of Burdwan as an Assistant Professor at Stage-I, where I dedicated four years to fostering a rich learning environment. Prior to that, I briefly served as an Assistant Professor at Ananda Mohon College, Kolkata, further enriching my teaching experience.

My commitment to advancing knowledge extends beyond the classroom, as reflected in my significant editorial contributions. As an Associate Editor for Frontiers in Immunology and Frontiers in Oncology, as well as a Review Editor for Frontiers in Oncology: Hematologic Malignancies, I actively engage with cutting-edge research in these fields. Additionally, I serve as an Academic Editor for PlosOne, contributing to the scholarly dissemination of scientific findings.

Throughout my career, I have been honored with various awards and recognitions, underscoring my commitment to excellence. Notable among these are the DST-SERB Early Career Research Award in 2016, the Indian Immunology Society Best Oration Award in 2012, and the FIMSA Travel Award in the same year. My dedication to research is further exemplified by my membership in prestigious scientific societies, including the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the European Academy for Tumor Immunology, and the Indian Immunology Society.

As a life member of the Indian Society of Hematology & Blood Transfusion since 2018, I continue to contribute to the advancement of knowledge and scientific discourse in the field. My journey is characterized by a passion for research, a commitment to education, and a relentless pursuit of excellence in the realm of immunology and beyond.
